The Cold War was never just fought in the open. It was fought in shadows, through operatives, black sites, and missions that never made it into the history books. Call of Duty: Black Ops drops you into that world and doesn't let go.

Developed by Treyarch, Black Ops takes the Call of Duty formula into one of its most compelling settings yet. You play as Alex Mason, a CIA operative being interrogated about a numbers broadcast that could trigger a global catastrophe. The story jumps across Cuba, Vietnam, the Soviet Union, and beyond, weaving a Cold War thriller with enough twists to keep you locked in from start to finish. For a franchise not always known for its narrative ambition, Black Ops delivers something genuinely memorable.

The campaign is just the beginning. Multiplayer remains the heartbeat of the experience, refined and expanded with new modes, the returning killstreak system, and the introduction of COD Points, a currency that lets you unlock weapons, attachments, and equipment on your own terms. Wager Match modes add a high stakes edge to competitive play that keeps things fresh well beyond the campaign.

And then there's Zombies. Four players, endless waves of the undead, and an escalating tension that turned a bonus mode into a phenomenon. Black Ops Zombies set the standard that the series has been chasing ever since.

Few shooters of its era balanced cinematic storytelling, competitive multiplayer, and co-operative chaos this confidently.

The numbers, Mason. What do they mean?
